Fat is not Evil

A healthy body fat range for men is 10 to 15 percent. Women should have at least 15 percent body fat in order to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Too little fat changes hormone levels, which can result in the loss of bone mass (and osteoporosis). Also, the lack of menstruation results in the stagnation of tissue in the uterus, and can lead to cysts and tumors.

Fat can be Fabulous

Understand, fat is not necessarily a bad word. Fat is simply stored energy. In fact, fat is essential to the body (like essential fatty acids.) Fat is actually needed to absorb certain nutrients. When people go “overboard” in their quest to slim down, they actually defeat their purpose. In fact, many prescribed diets do not provide enough calories for effective weight loss.

Diet Pills – a Subscription for Disaster

There are advertisements that offer the “easy way out” with a “magic” diet pill. This may be tempting, but it does not deal with the underlying issues, and these pills can cause permanent physical problems, such as heart damage. In the end, the diet pills do not appear to be a healthy or permanent choice in weight management. Even if we look at weight from a physical perspective, diets still do not work. So many fad diets cut out entire food groups, (which isn’t healthy) and require us to deprive ourselves of the foods we love.

CARBS VS. FAT, OR PERHAPS SOMETHING ELSE

Recently I was taking a look at a vending machine to see if there were any worthwhile snacks in it. Considering the shelf life of the treats (which is probably much longer than the date stamped on the package) I figured there wasn’t much that was worthwhile in there. After all, I once heard a nutritionist say “if it doesn’t rot or sprout, throw it out,” referring to all of the unhealthy processed foods and the additives that come with them.

What I saw in the machine made me chuckle. (At least I got a little stress relief from it.) Before me was a package of fried pork rinds. The label proclaimed: “Zero net carbs per serving”. Wow, give me some of those! What was even more interesting was the package of pretzels nearby. The package on these little carb-filled gems stated: “Fat Free”. So the question is: Is it best to go with the solid-fat-no-carb snack, or the fat-free-full-carb snack. Surely the marketing experts know what they are talking about, right? No wonder obesity is still on the rise.

When we look at the physical and psychological aspect of weight management, the more important ingredient is actually protein. This is because protein has the highest satiation effect and the highest thermic effect. In other words, protein is the best at satisfying hunger and helps us to feel more full.
In addition, the thermic effect has to do with the amount of energy the body uses to digest the high-protein food. When you eat protein, your body uses more energy to digest it than it uses to digest fats and carbs.

If you consider that fat is stored energy, you actually burn more fat when you eat proteins.
However, always keep in mind the following: Everything in moderation. Too much of anything can be detrimental to your health, so there is no need to go overboard with the protein. And, we can’t expect ourselves to eat “perfectly” all of the time. But above all, never neglect the mind-body-soul connection for permanent weight balance.

KATY PERRY Loses Weight and Stays in Shape Doing what she Loves

No one can deny that Katy Perry is in great shape. So, how does she do it? By doing what she loves. That includes dancing and performing. It also includes jumping rope.

Kathy was quoted as saying: “When I want to get in shape, I jump rope. It’s rhythmic and it’s so easy and I can listen to music while I do it and I can jump rope for a half an hour straight. It’s really exciting.”

Why do these activities work SO WELL for Katy? Because Katy loves to do them. It’s something she truly enjoys, which makes it fun. When you get some physical activity doing what you love, then you are more likely to do it longer, and you will stick with it.

After all, imagine doing some type of exercise that you do not like. How long will it last? You can train your subconscious mind by getting into the habit of doing it, but it will take at least 21 days to do that – if you can stay with it that long.

But it’s so much more pleasant when it is something that you are PASSIONATE about. So, think of an activity that you would love doing. What is it that makes you happy? Is there some activity that you enjoyed when you were younger? Then choose that activity, and you will most likely stick with it, and the weight loss process will be so much easier.

Good luck, have fun and enjoy getting in shape!
